ABRF 2011: Technologies to Enable Personalized Medicine
Welcome to ABRF 2011: “Technologies to Enable Personalized Medicine”. The 2011 annual meeting of the Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities (ABRF) will once again provide an exciting mix of cutting-edge science and its execution in a shared resource / core facility setting, as well as provide ample opportunities for networking with academic, industry and exhibitor colleagues.
This year ABRF2011 will focus on diagnostics and biomarkers as gate keepers for personalized medicine. Since humans are genetically non-identical and have different life experiences and life style choices, we respond differently to medicines. Patients (and society as a whole) pay a high price in terms of pain and suffering for this differential response, and this has led to great interest in identifying tools to stratify drug responders from non-responders. Since core laboratories provide technologies across the spectrum, they are on the front lines for the discovery of these key enablers.
The Organizing Committee for ABRF 2011 has assembled an exciting program that will feature plenary lectures by three scientific world leaders to comment on approaches and challenges in this developing area.
